Artist Spotlight: Duncan Simpson

Artist Spotlight: Duncan Simpson

For Pack 003 of One Long Mixtape, Duncan Simpson brings a quiet intensity—one rooted in observation, restraint, and an appreciation for the small things that often go unnoticed. From the simple joy of an HB #2 pencil to his deep affection for subtle visual details, Duncan’s work feels grounded, intentional, and deeply personal.

His favorite sticker from the pack, “Pathway – Hobo,” captures a longing for movement and openness. It reflects a desert-drifter sensibility—part wanderer, part observer—where space, silence, and direction matter as much as destination. That sense of travel and introspection echoes throughout his creative output, where tiny moments carry emotional weight.

Musically, Duncan’s influences span introspective, emotional, and genre-blurring artists—from Tool and The Cure to Antony & The Johnsons—mirroring his own ability to hold contrast: softness and edge, structure and freedom. It’s no surprise that an artist like William Hawkins sits high on his dream-collaboration list, given their shared rawness and outsider spirit.

Behind the work is a strong foundation of support. Duncan credits his brother and sisters for encouraging his creativity, reinforcing the idea that even the most solitary-seeming practices are often upheld by quiet community.

Duncan Simpson’s contribution to One Long Mixtape is a reminder that big joy can live in small gestures—and that the most powerful creative voices are often the ones paying closest attention.
